Effects of social stress and clomipramine on emotional memory in mice.

We have previously observed impairing effects of social defeat stress (CSDS) on inhibitory avoidance (IA) in mice. Given the similarity between changes produced by social stress in animals and symptoms of certain human psychopathologies such as depression and anxiety, the effects of the antidepressant clomipramine on IA impairment produced by CSDS were evaluated in the present study. Acute effects of fluoxetine on inhibitory avoidance consolidation in male and female OF1 mice

The effects of acute administration of fluoxetine on memory consolidation using an inhibitory avoidance task were investigated in male and female OF1 mice. Several doses of this antidepressant (5, 10, and 20 mg/kg) were intraperitoneally administered immediately after the training session. The test session was carried out four days later and response latencies were measured in both sessions. The results showed that the highest dose of fluoxetine significantly increased response latencies of inhibitory avoidance compared with the lowest dose and the control group. Effects of acute bupropion administration on locomotor activity in adolescent and adult mice

Responses to some psychoactive substances seem to differ between adolescents and adults. Bupropion, an antidepressant which is also used for smoking cessation, induces a dose-dependent increase in locomotor activity in adult mice, although its behavioral actions in adolescents have not been evaluated. The discovery and evaluation of high affinity dopamine transport inhibitors with low abuse liability is an important step toward the development of efficacious medications for cocaine addiction. We examined in mice the behavioural effects of (N-(n-butyl)-3Ά-[bis(4Ά-fluorophenyl)methoxy]-tropane) (JHW 007), a benztropine (BZT) analogue that blocks dopamine uptake, and assessed its potential to influence the actions of cocaine in clinically-relevant models of cocaine addiction. Dose-dependent impairing effects of morphine on avoidance acquisition and performance in male mice.

The effects of morphine (6.3, 12.6, and 25.2 mg/kg) on active avoidance behavior of BALB/C mice are explored in three acquisition sessions and in two subsequent performance sessions. Morphine-treated animals showed an increase in avoidance acquisition with respect to control group without differences in performance. However, a dramatical, concomitant rise in the locomotor activity of the animals (increase in the number of crossings during the intertrial intervals) prompted us to transform the data employing a formula with which a measure of actual learning was obtained. Benztropine (BZT) analogs, a family of high-affinity dopamine transporter ligands, are molecules that exhibit pharmacological and behavioral characteristics predictive of significant therapeutic potential in cocaine addiction. Here, we examined in mice the effects of 3 alpha-[bis(4'-fluorophenyl)metoxy]-tropane (AHN-1055) on motor activity, conditioned place preference (CPP) and c-Fos expression in the striatum. Chronic administration of fluoxetine impairs inhibitory avoidance in male but not female mice

The effects of chronic administration of fluoxetine (20 mg/kg/day i.p.) on a one-trial step-through inhibitory avoidance task were investigated in male and female CD1 mice. In Experiment 1, treatment was administered for 21 days before the training session, whereas in Experiment 2, other subjects were subjected to the same treatment starting 24 h after the training session.
